Hall of Fame induction is meant to be a reflection of one’s career and accomplishments. Surely it can be done during someone’s career but it’s more impactful post career as a review of sorts so they can be inclusive of every single possible highlight and achievement.

The difference is  just in case they commit a crime. For example  miles bridges, draymond green,  josh giddy,  Kevin porter Jr are all 1st ballot hall of fame caliber players. But they won't get into the hall of fame because of their crimes.

I think it’s simply a way to honor players like you when your career is truly complete. Not sure why that is different for coaches . However, we’re not just putting you in the HOF…we need to recarve the Mount Rushmore of basketball with you as a part of it.
